STEAK SANDWICH MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Just yesterday, I went on a search for a perfect steak sandwich.  I decided to throw caution to the wind and create my own. I wanted something grilled and similar to a patty melt with a piece of steak instead of ground beef.  I also wanted to keep the cost at minimum. It is a sandwich, I mean there's no reason to bust out the big bucks for an expensive cut of meat unless you just happen to have some left over or that you need to use up.

I used the marinade mixture that I mentioned in the previous blog and used a simple top round minute steak. The other steps that I took made the difference in the way that the sandwich tastes.  Here goes:

STEAK SANDWICH MELTS
Minute steaks (marinated in the previous mentioned blog)
1 large yellow onion caramelized in a mixture of olive oil and butter
4 slices of Swiss cheese
4 slices of Italian loaf style bread (Pepperidge Farm makes a loaf that's precut and works great)
2 Tablespoons mayonnaise (Optional)

Caramelize the onion in the butter and olive oil mixture. Remove the onions and reserve the left over oil/butter to brush the sandwich bread with. This adds tons of extra flavor because the onion flavor has now been infused with the oil/butter.  Return the same pan to a higher heat and cook the steaks. This takes NO time at all. They're called minute steaks for a reason. 1-1 1/2 minutes on each side will be more than sufficient.  Allow to rest for 5-6 minutes.  Spread mayo evenly on each piece of the Italian bread slices. Build the sandwich. Bread, mayo, cheese, steak, caramelized onions, cheese, mayo, then top bread.  Using the reserved oil/butter brush the outside of the top and bottom bread and then grill in a pan over medium heat or in a sandwich/panini press until it's a crisp deep golden brown.

Serve up with some homemade potato chips or fries.

This makes a great quick and easy go to meal.  The recipe that I featured makes two sandwiches.  Obviously adding more of each ingredients will easily increase your amount of servings.

Hope you enjoy!
