With Turkey Day looming near, I have been throwing out ideas about how to cook the bird and alternatives to side dishes and desserts. The problem is sometimes, your loved ones are not as willing to try something new.
For years my grandparents and mother have been roasting a 14 pound turkey at 275 for 585 hours(well maybe not that much, but you get the point) so imagine trying to bring in the actual cooking techniques and styles that are new and different.
I have been scrolling through many a food network superstar recipe for a new and exciting Thanksgiving. I LOVE the ideas. Family uuu not so much! With a timeline and no time for test kitchens available. My word of advice is, unless you are willing to prepare and possibly screw up the entire meal yourself. Accept the responsibility of one or two of your new items and let everyone see how fantastic they are. Your family has a tradition and who are you to come in and change years of favorites? As said before unless you want to host it, prepare it, and last but not least pay for it. Start small. If you have an idea for a great turkey then offer up the bird. A fantastic dressing, or cheesecake or pumpkin pie....you get the point.
I have been extremely fortunate to have many friends that have included me in their family gatherings and realize that everyone is different. Someone may not love the traditional meal set upon the table, however they should still give thanks that someone special prepared it. If the "fam" is totally unresponsive to the idea of new food offer a beautiful tablescape!
