Generally, whenever I want a more indulgent meal such as surf and turf, I hit up the local seafood restaurant or steakhouse. Last night I opted to do it myself. I didn't go too crazy with more difficult or exotic seafood. Choosing simple shrimp skewers that I marinated prior to grilling. The meal couldn't have been easier and didn't break the bank. The steak was reasonably priced and a decent cut which was cut in to two pieces to be shared for proper portion size. The shrimp were leftover from a previous meal. I picked up a couple of baking potatoes and prepared everything on the grill. The meal came in at just about $6.00 per person for two people. You can't get that kind of food at that price at a restaurant! I added some garlic and lemon to a 1/2 stick of butter and melted for dipping and was in Heaven for the entire time I was eating this meal that I created!
I love the sense of satisfaction that you get when you do something yourself! The meal could also have easily been split up enough to feed four people by just slicing the steak into strips for serving and a few less shrimp on each skewer. We had 10 shrimp each for two of us so dividing it up among four would still be a sufficient serving! It was the perfect Sunday evening meal before a night of great TV. It also gave me my hit of red meat prior to my meatless Monday(which is obviously today). Trying to pull some ideas out of the hat for food the rest of the day. Breakfast is always easy because you can just throw some cereal in a bowl and you're good to go. But, for a carnivore like myself, you have to be clever when trying to fill up the rest of the day!
'Til next time! Good eating folks!
