PJ's Cafe

Daily I pass this local treasure just off the McDonough Square in McDonough, GA! I haven't had the opportunity to drop in for a non-rushed lunch or dinner. Today was the day of enjoyment and taking in my first local restaurant for the blog.

PJ's is a quaint cafe with an upscale charm and hometown feel at the same time! Murals on the walls of local landmarks remind you of the small town square that you're visiting. While the staff is friendly and non-intrusive. The lunch menu has both fantastic selections as well as very reasonable pricing. With selections ranging from appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, to pasta dishes and bourbon marinated steak. While looking over the wine list I found that too is extremely varied in it's selection and ranging from $5.00-$7.50 per glass and $15.00-$27.00 per bottle. Not a bad deal in the least!

I started my lunch with the Spinach & Artichoke Dip (below)

The dip had the perfect texture with bits of the artichoke and spinach, the chips were homemade and fresh. Light and fluffy but thick enough to hold a generous helping of the dip. An excellent choice when you visit.

I followed the dip with a cup of Soup of the Day. "Tomato Basil" all I can say is, "YUM"!
My compliments to the chef! A delicious blend of seasoning and fresh basil and tomatoes. All of which complimented each other while offering obvious tastings of each flavor! A great warm up on a cold last day in November!

Finally the main course. The "Roasted Turkey Mornay" This dish literally brought a tear to my eye! Pictured below is the most amazing open faced sandwich that I have ever had. Toasted bread topped with mounds of shaved roasted turkey breast and smothered in a rich and creamy mornay sauce that could easily hold it's own in any french cuisine. then pleasantly garnished with greens and an impeccably roasted tomato slice! Then topped with two crisp slices of bacon! A definite do over as well as a guilty pleasure!

PJ's is not a place to overlook if visiting McDonough. For locals who haven't tried it yet. You are missing out on a great local restaurant. In a world where the chains have taken over, the independently owned business is a dining experience that more of us should be enjoying!
