I LOVE the finer things in life! A beautiful home, an expensive night on the town, a gorgeous tablescape! However, there are times when my champagne taste doesn't team up too well with my beer budget! A classic comfort food that my family has made for years was cubed steak. Every single time I put it in my mouth it was dry and tough, and even though it tasted great was nearly inedible.
Through some trial and error, my friend William and I finally figured out the way to prepare this inexpensive dish without a trip to the dentist the following week! The secret, you see is to dowse the meat with salt pepper and garlic powder, as well as Worcestershire sauce before cooking and to make sure that the pan is extremely hot before placing the steaks. Only allow to cook on each side for three to four minutes. This allows the floured meat to crisp up on the outside and remain tender on the inside. Serve with mashed potatoes and a vegetable of your choice and you have a meal that easily costs less than ten dollars to make.
It may not be a filet mignon but it is a familiar favorite that won't break the bank! Get adventurous and make your own own gravy for just a few cents more!
